Space Clearing
Space clearing is the cleansing, purifying or consecrating of our environment. It is performed traditionally in many cultures, among them Native Americans and the people of the British Isles. It is also an important component of a feng shui treatment.

Both positive and negative energy resonates continuously in your space. These are often referred to as imprints. This energy is observed by our senses, even if on an unconscious level. When this energy is stagnant or sluggish, we may feel the effects physically as in tiredness or a bad mood. The saying that the tension in the room is so thick you could cut it with a knife is making reference to this energy.
Some people believe that previously owned objects carry an imprint from the previous owner and they would then do a clearing on the object.
Among the reasons you might clear a space are to clear predecessor energy, to clear the way when you feel "stuck," to remove grief and other strong emotion from a space where they were present, to create space for something new to emerge, to revitalize the energy of a space or to clear the past.
A space clearing can be done by yourself or you can hire a professional such as a feng shui practitioner.
Performing a space clearing
Space clearing is performed any number of ways. This is a very simple space clearing.
If this is a new home for you, begin by clearing out anything from the previous owner. If you've been living in it for awhile, remove broken or unused items.
Begin in the center of the space, or wherever it feels like the hearth of the home. Focus on your intention to cleanse the space of old energies and to purify it to make way for the beneficial energies that are to occupy it henceforth.
You may offer flowers by laying them in this central space before beginning. Flowers signal new growth and will immediately improve the space.
If not in a smoke-sensitive area, you might decide to leave a candle buring in this middle space as fire is intensely transformative and candles represent enlightenment.
Ring a bell to signal that the clearing is beginning. Sound is a good tool to use in a space clearing as the vibration breaks up and absorbs stale energy as does smoke, water and salt.
